The Greater Sudbury Cubs (NOJHL) continue their dominance, securing the top spot in the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) Top 20 Rankings – Fuelled by Gatorade, announced Monday. Winners of an incredible 19 consecutive games, the Cubs have not faced defeat in since November 7, 2024 – a 6-3 loss on the road against Hearst. The defending Copeland Cup-McNamara Trophy champions enter their next matchup with an impressive overall record of 34-2-1-1.

At No. 2 in the CJHL rankings are the Melfort Mustangs (SJHL). The defending Canterra Seeds Cup champions and 2024 Centennial Cup finalists boast a 31-5-0-0 record, having gone 9-1 in their last 10 outings.

The Leamington Flyers (OJHL) hold steady at No. 3 with a 10-game win streak, supported by a league-low 70 goals-against through 43 games. Close behind are the Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL) at No. 4, just one point back of Leamington with an equally strong 35-5-2-0 record.

Rounding out the Top 5 are the Edmundston Blizzard (MHL), who have already secured a playoff spot with a 31-6-1-1 record.

The NOJHL also announced its BrokerLink Insurance Three Stars of the Week on Monday.  

Samuel Assinewai (F) – Greater Sudbury Cubs  

Assinewai extended his consecutive game point streak to 20 with back-to-back multi-goal performances last week. He tallied twice against both Hearst and Powassan, also assisting on the game-winner versus the Lumberjacks. The 20-year-old now sits second in NOJHL scoring with 65 points in 35 games, reaching 175 career points in the league.

Owen King (F) – Blind River Beavers  

King recorded his third hat trick of the season, including the game-winner, in a victory over Iroquois Falls. The Cambridge, Ont., native has been a scoring machine, netting 18 goals in his last 11 games and now holds the second-highest game-winner tally in the league with nine – one back of Cubs’ forward Lucas Signoretti.  

Trent Nobes (F) – Kirkland Lake Gold Miners  

Nobes helped Kirkland Lake secure three points on a road trip, including a two-goal, one-assist performance against the Soo Eagles. The 18-year-old rookie now ranks third in goals among NOJHL rookies with 16 tallies, including seven multi-goal games this season.
